Eugene Laverty delivered a hugely impressive comeback weekend at Imola for the WorldSBK Pata Italian Round, coming 12th in Race 1 and 9th in Race 2. Riding through the pain on a very physical track, he showed excellent form on his return after the horrendous accident in Thailand.
Eugene Laverty “I’d say that this was probably the most physical race weekend I’ve ever had in my career. Not really a very enjoyable one when you’re trying to get back on the horse, but then it’s not an easy circuit to return from injury at. Imola’s the toughest track on the calendar and I was far from 100% fit. I was completely busted and destroyed after race 1 on Saturday, but that said – we improved the bike on Saturday night and managed to make it much more rideable for race 2. So whilst we weren’t very fast I was at least able to maintain my pace and that’s all we could ask for really.
I’m now looking forward to Donington, which is a much more flowing track which really suits the Aprilia. So, fingers crossed, we can be much closer to the front and hope for a good result.”
